Longboat Key Restaurants: Moore’s Serving Stonecrabs Since 1967
Every year when it’s stonecrab season, residents and visitors arrive at Moore’s Stonecrab Restaurant on Longboat Key to sample the season’s catch. Moore’s is the oldest seafood restaurant “under the same ownership” in Manatee County.
Papa Jack Moore walking the flats of the bays getting stonecrab as far back as 1927 beginning a long history for the Moore family’s seafood business. All traps were built by hand back in the 20s and today they are still handmade. In 1927, the traps numbered from 50 to 75 and currently Moore’s boats work as many as 140,000 traps.
From October 15 to May 15 each year, Moore’s boats work the traps each day bringing customers fresh crabs for the restaurant. And each year, we head to Moore’s to test the season’s feast.
If stonecrab is not for you, try Moore’s tasty crab rolls, stuffed shrimp or fried oysters. Can’t make up your mind, Moore’s offers combination platters: Longboat Platter, Broadway Platter or the Villager platter are excellent.
Moore’s is located in the historic Longboat Key Village on Broadway Street - More Information. Be very careful on Broadway – there is always a peacock crossing the road.
